R.I.P Sponge Bob Squiggle Pug Pants

Yesterday I saw a pug listed on our local shelter's website. He was in foster care, waiting to be adopted. After getting the "okay" from C, I emailed the sweet thing's foster mom. Unfortunately, he had already been adopted. We were heartbroken. I already planned where I would put his food and water bowls. I already looked forward to walking him in the morning before work. I already wanted to see his happy little face and wagging tail as I walked into the apartment after work. But it wasn't to be. Sigh.

Being teased by this foster pug has really gotten us thinking: should we get one anyway? It doesn't have to be the little one from the shelter; we could buy one like regular people do. I had concerns about having a dog in an apartment where no one was home during the day. But after doing a lot of online research yesterday, I found that pugs do quite well as apartment dogs. They are completely happy to sleep most of the day and really only need to be walked once a day (of course, they'd need to be taken out more than this, but that's a given). Definitely sounds like Thor.

So should we do this??? I'll post the picture of one of the available pugs just to sway the vote.

Did you choose this picture especially to inspire our canine pity? Cuz it worked. That dog is begging to be adopted! Let me be the voice of reason, for a moment.

The other day I, yes I - the hater of all animals - thought that it would be fun to have a small dog at home yapping at my feet. I pictured us on little walks and cuddled up reading a book together. It was very inviting! Fortunately I then remembered that I love my non-chewed on shoes and my non-scratched up furniture, and my non-shed on clothes, and my non-stinky house, and my love of jetting off for a weekend responsibility free and I reconsidered. I think I've made my point.

But - you'll get one one day, (whereas I and my fake allergies will not) so if you want one now, go for it!

I think you should find another pug to adopt. My friend Lindsay volunteers for the shelter and often fosters dogs. I'll tell her to keep an eye out for a pug.

If you are going to get a dog, definitely do it before kids. They seriously are another person in the house and you will love the puggle much more if you get it before the babies come. Granted, once you do have children, the poor little animal loses a lot of attention, and you may slowly realize he is just a dog after all.

Aren't pugs big shedders? I seem to remember a friend of mine with a few of them and there seemed to be lots of little hair around the house. If you don't mind the clean-up go for it. Just so you know, after just having our fourth little baby, I sometimes wish we didn't have a dog. Aghhh! I can't believe I just said that out loud. . .We love our Corduroy.
